ProRES Launched
The ProRES project officially commenced with a two-day Kick-Off Meeting held on January 28–29, 2026, in Vienna, Austria, bringing together leading research institutions, industry partners, and stakeholders from across Europe and beyond. Hosted by AIT, the meeting marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to advance proactive resilience solutions for modern energy systems.
A Strong Start
The Kick-Off Meeting gathered representatives from nine partner institutions, including AIT, KTH, OFFIS, Fraunhofer ISE, and others, fostering early collaboration and alignment on project goals.
The agenda covered all active work packages (WPs), providing a comprehensive overview of the project structure, objectives, and expected outcomes. Early sessions introduced the core vision of ProRES, including its focus on anticipating, mitigating, and managing disruptive and extreme events in energy systems.
Participants also reviewed key aspects of the project proposal, including timeline alignment across countries and funding considerations. Importantly, it was confirmed that no major adjustments to the planned execution are required, ensuring a smooth project start.
Key Technical Work Packages
A central part of the meeting focused on the presentation of the project’s technical work packages:
- WP4: Prediction of disruptive and extreme events
- WP5: Disruptive event handling and mitigation
- WP6: Learning, training, and compliance testing for extreme situations
These sessions provided an initial overview of technical directions and emphasized cross-collaboration opportunities, particularly the use of AI-driven methods for scenario generation and training environments.
Highlight on Use Cases
A major highlight of the meeting was the extensive discussion of use cases and available resources under WP3. All partners contributed use cases covering a wide spectrum of challenges and innovations, such as:
- Fault localization and grid reconfiguration
- Cyber-physical digital twins and anomaly detection
- Resilient inverter control and probabilistic load flow
- Decision support during disruptions
- Sensor placement optimization and monitoring
These use cases reflect the project’s ambition to tackle both operational and cyber-physical challenges in energy systems.
To support development and validation, partners also presented valuable resources, including measurement data (e.g., smart meters and SCADA systems), sensor infrastructure, and testing environments.
A structured roadmap for WP3 was agreed upon, with key milestones including:
- May 2026: Clustering and prioritization of use cases
- July 2026 (D3.1): Definition of grouped use cases and KPIs
- November 2026 (D3.2): Mapping of use cases to resources and validation roadmap
Leveraging Existing Platforms
The meeting also included a dedicated workshop showcasing results from the DES-CERT project, highlighting AIT’s state-of-the-art validation platform for digital energy systems. This platform will be reused within ProRES to support testing and validation activities, accelerating project progress.
Looking Ahead
The ProRES Kick-Off Meeting successfully aligned all partners, defined priorities, and laid out a clear roadmap for the coming months. The immediate focus will be on advancing WP3, ensuring that use cases are clearly defined, prioritized, and ready for technical development.
With strong collaboration, innovative approaches, and a shared vision, ProRES is well-positioned to deliver impactful solutions for enhancing the resilience of energy systems in the face of future challenges.
Stay tuned for more updates as the ProRES project progresses.
